Airport City is an £800m property development scheme at Manchester Airport, which includes Airport City South, a 1.4m sq ft logistics development, on a 90 acre site located at Manchester Airport.

Close working with Manchester City Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership and managing a wide range of multi-stakeholder groups, the success of this project relied on detailed negotiation to take land out of green belt. After a consultation process involving the public, MPs and Local Councils the master plan was agreed, resulting in planning permission being secured in 2012.

With planning in place, development partners were appointed in 2013, enabling the first phase of work to commence. Subsequently, John secured a deal with global logistics leader DHL for a major distribution facility, which completed in 2014 and was followed quickly by planning permission for a 130,000 sq ft spec’ build and 260,000 sq ft partnership deal.

Airport City is the first of its kind in the UK and achieved Enterprise Zones status in 2012, as well as securing an extension for an additional 900,000 sq ft in 2015.
